Zircote Bowl # 7260
Bowl number 7260 is a hand turned bowl made from Zircote. Each of my bowls are signed, numbered and dated (year). They are finished with a friction polish that's applied while still on the lathe.
This bowl measures 7 1/2" across and is 2 15/16" high.
ZIRCOTE - (Cordia dodecandra) other spelling of the name is Ziricote and Siricote. It can be found in southern Mexico, Belize and Guatemala.
The heartwood is some of the most fantastic grain around. Sometimes you can actually make out landscape scene in the grain. It's a rich dark brown with thin black lines with some silvery flecking where the rays are randomly revealed. Zircote grow randomly in it's growth range and so is not widely available and can be very expensive.
The wood is very hard to dry and is prone to checking (cracking) and warping.
