TULIPWOOD (Dalbergia frutescens) other names are bois de rose, Brazilian tulipwood, jacaranda rosa, pau de fuso, pau rosa, pinkwood.
Tulipwood grows 20' to 35' high and less than 16" in diameter and the growth is slow, with trees taking as much as centuries to mature even though they are quite small. Tulipwood's heartwood is cream colored to salmon colored but dominated by stripes of red, violet, purple and rose --- generally the red streaking dominates. The sapwood is yellow to yellowish white. Heartwood color fades with age. This is a strikingly beautiful wood.
Tulipwood's name is occasionally confused with the North American tulip tree (liriodendron tulipfera), better known as yellow poplar, but the two have nothing in common, Tulipwood is a true rosewood. There is a fragrant scent reminiscent of flowers when the wood is cut.
Tulipwood ranges from northeastern Brazil as the primary source, with some coming from Central and Latin America; Brazil, Colombia, Guyana and Venezuela
Tulipwood was a favorite in French furniture in the Empire period but because of the small size and very high cost it is generally found today only in inlays, marquetry, turnery, and other small decorative fancy goods.

The Tulipwood crochet hook is the latest addition to my collection of Nelsonwood hooks. The wood is beautiful and such a lightweight feel in the hands. Another piece of awesome art work by Bryan.

I received my K hook and it is beautiful. I used it right away and like my other hooks I have brought from Bryan it is wonderful to use. The wood is so smooth and the handle lets me crochet longer with out my hand tiring or cramping up. These hooks are worth every penny. You cannot go wrong ordering from Bryan.

I received my beautiful hooks and ordered more as they exceeded my expectations. He has also modified one of them to a point at tip which made it easier to get between my stitches as I'm a tight crocheter.

I live in New Zealand so my hook has taken a bit longer to reach me, but happily it arrived this morning safe and sound. It is really beautiful both to look at and more importantly feels great in my hand. I suffer from arthritis and therefore cannot crochet for very long using normal straight hooks, so I am looking forward to using Bryan's lovely hook and hopefully less hand cramps. Bryan is a true craftsman and does such beautiful work.

I was BEYOND excited to receive my hook in the mail, which came SO quickly might I add. It was literally even more beautiful in person than it was in the pictures!! Which says a lot because it was gorgeous in the photos too. Not only all this but it crochets like a dream and takes all the pressure off of my fingers and wrists. I am certainly going to be buying more hooks from Nelsonwood and will recommend ALL to do the same! Best money I've spent in a while. Thank you !!!

This hook helped me finish a project that I could only do a round or so with a regular hook because my hand would go numb. I love all my Nelsonwood hooks and this is certainly no exception. Highly recommended if you find you have hand fatigue from crochet.

This is my third Nelsonwood hook, (I've just ordered my fourth), and I love it! The shape is comfortable and easy to hold, the wood is smooth and won't snag the yarn, and the hook is just gorgeous to look at. My husband saw it and told me that I deserve to have such beautiful tools. I will be ordering more!

I am in love! It crochets so smoothly and it’s very lightweight. The width is perfect. Everything about this hook is absolute perfection. Bryan’s craftsmanship is impeccable. It’s like crocheting with a work of art! If you enjoy the finer things in life and want to treat yourself, you should definitely pull the trigger. You won’t regret it.

I was so empress when I got my hook. Because of the sizes, I had to try it right away. Since I am self taught, I hold my hook different from most people, but this works for me. I will be ordering again because the wood is so smooth and beautiful. So glad I gave myself this gift.

After trying many wooden hooks from the very pricey (We all know who they are) to the cheap. I was ready to give up on wooden hooks; That is untell I found Mr.Nelson! I was in contact w/him and expressed what I was looking for;He is very prompt at answering any questions or concerns you may have. That's a win in my book. His hooks are so smooth, non-sticky,beautifully made and make exquisite even stitches. I already have an eye on my next hook. I can't say enough to express how wonderful they truly are! Thank You, Mr. Nelson
